A 9/11 Special Tribute: “MAYBE THE GEESE FLEW OVER THAT DAY”

Below is a poem/song that my friend , J. Bernadette Williamson, penned for the 9/11 fallen and their families. Please enjoy!

MAYBE THE GEESE FLEW OVER THAT DAY

Maybe the geese flew over that day
Maybe….maybe
Did anyone see where they flew__which way
Maybe….maybe
Flying to where the world is warm
And a rainbow shines after every storm
Flying above the terror that morn
Maybe…maybe

Did you feel the rumbling of wings above
Maybe….maybe
Were they wings of hatred or wings of love
Maybe….maybe
Were they soaring to where the green grass grows
And the corn stands tall in a thousand rows
Or were they the wings of war and woe
Maybe….maybe

Did anyone look to the sky that day
Maybe….maybe
And see a vision of hope in the gray
Maybe….maybe
Did anyone see the angels nearby
Carrying souls to a safer sky
And those of us watching were left to ask why
Maybe….maybe

When nine and eleven comes round the hill
There’s a lump in the throat and the spine feels chill
For that is the day our nation stood still
But maybe….maybe

Someone else saw what my eyes did see
A vision of spirits all breaking free
Rising above the world’s debris
Did you see it?….maybe?

And patriots hovered in dead of night
Penning our freedom by candlelight
And we the people do solemnly swear
It will not be stolen from America’s air!

And the Watchman tarries though the wait seems long
Soon all will be right where all is now wrong
And the geese will fly over in joyous song
Forever and all night long
Forever and all night long
